Red Rock's founder, Lee Hagan, was a prominent merchant during Atlanta's Reconstruction era. In 1885, he purchased a bottling plant in what is now the heart of downtown Atlanta. That same year, Hagan met G.T. Dodd, a wholesale grocer, and the two soon became business partners. They officially established the Red Rock Company in 1885, a year before Coca-Cola, naming the company after Red Rock Lane. In 1908, they pioneered the use of motor trucks to distribute their carbonated beverages throughout Atlanta. In 1929, Dodd acquired Hagan's share in the Red Rock Company, becoming the sole owner.
